Are you just starting out online, looking for a plan to make some money? Don't know what to do, how or where to start? Why not start a niche marketing business? Follow along as I set up a niche blog, and show you step by step what I do as I do it. Together we'll get a blog up and running, get visitors, and hopefully cash in and make some extra cash to line our pockets with ;o).

I know what you're thinking, ok Jerry how much will it cost me, well don't worry, it won't cost you a penny, that's right, nada, zip, zilch, everything you'll need is free and readily available online! I'll also be available through my contact page if you get stuck and need extra help, again no charge. Why am I doing this? Simply put, I like helping people out, to share my knowledge with someone who needs it.

I'll be getting started soon and I expect to take a couple of weeks to get it all set up. So check back and lets git-er-done! These will be the steps we'll be covering:

So are you ready to have your own online business? It may only be one little niche blog, but it's a start, and it'll get you in the game. So lets get started, first:

How much money do you need?

How much money do you want to make from your niche blog? $5.00 a day- $100.00 a day? The amount of income you want to make will help you determine how competitive a niche to go after.

The more competitive niches will take more time and effort get that coveted number one spot on Google.

Lets get an idea of what a visitor is worth, shall we? Ok, you choose a niche and work your tail off to climb to number one of the serp's. You get 1000 people a day from Google and it's said that 40% of those people will click on the number one website. So 400 people visit your website daily from Google. You have your AdSense optimized well and get a 5% CTR (Click Through Rate), and you make 50 cents a click, .05 x 400 x .50 = $10.00 per day income from AdSense. About $300.00 per month.

The smaller the niche-the less money made per blog-the more niche blogs you need to realize a substantial income.

Writing content has been my bug-a-boo (bug-a-boo means it's a pain in my arse), so I'm shooting for more than a 1000 people a day searching for my search terms. Notice I said search terms, not term, that means all my terms together need to get those people to my blog.

If you're not prepared to spend some time (months) working your way up the serp's then you need to pick a less competitive niche to start with. Did that make sense? The smaller the niche, the easier it will be to rank for your keywords, and the smaller the niche the less money can be made, generally. The larger the niche, the harder it will be to rank for your keywords, but the reward (money) should be greater.

Finding Your Niche

First go to the Google Keyword Tool and lets find the topic of our niche. When choosing a niche you want to pick a topic you know a little something about (recommended), that way it's much easier to create content for your new blog, as it's best to have several pages of good keyword optimized content (I would suggest at least 5 pages.)

Say you really enjoy cooking-no you have a real passion for cooking, that's good, cooking will be our starting keyword. Go to Google's free keyword tool and type in cooking, choose the "exact" match type, and "show" all the columns, to get the most and best info on your keywords.

The keyword "cooking" has has over 7,000,000 searches on average per month. Sounds good, but not so fast, lets type "cooking" with the parentheses into Google. There's 168,000,000 competing web pages, meaning it would take years to get on the first page (if it's even possible).

Quick tip: I enter $50.00 where it asks for your maximum CPC (cost per click) which gives you the maximum amount paid by advertisers for clicks. This gives you an idea if there's money to be made with that particular keyword.

Looking down the results page, I see these interesting keywords:

"Cooking light recipes" jumps out at you, ya think? With over 110,000 searches and only 37,500 competing web pages, we could have a winner! Lets investigate those keywords a little more, and see what we find.

Check out the competition

Go to good ole Google and type in "cooking light recipes" to bring up your competition. Size up the competition by finding their pagerank (I useGoogle's toolbar with the page rank indicator), and the number of backlinks pointing to the site. Here's a few sites to find those backlinks:

Google, of course likes the sites with the higher pagerank, and "he who has the most backlinks wins".

Pagerank is on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the strongest. All the sites on page one for our keywords "cooking light recipes" have a pagerank of "0", so that's good!

The first site that comes up on a search for our keywords has 352,159 backlinks, now that's not so good! Even though the links to this site are PRO links you would need to get more of them to move above them on the page.

Basically to rank higher then any other website for your keywords you need to see how many links they have pointing to all the pages of the site, and determine the pagerank of those incoming links, and then simply get more links to your site. Sometimes it's easier said than done.

Just remember when choosing a niche for your niche marketing business, especially when you are just starting out, less competitive keywords are much easier to rank for. Get to the number one spot for a few of these to gain some experience, then go for the more competitive keywords and really cash in!

If you're just starting out just just go for a few small less competitive keywords to start with and don't even worry about the money just have some fun with it, dominate the niche and gain some experience.

What Is Onsite SEO?

Onsite SEO is simply what you can do on/to your website to optimize it's pages for search engine traffic. Should I worry about SEO?

Only if you care about getting search engine traffic to your website. So if you really don't care about who finds your website and your main focus is to just to blog than I wouldn't worry about SEO either onsite or offsite.

If on the other hand you want to make money online (and it really doesn't matter too much what monetization model you use) you will indeed need to be concerned about SEO, both onsite and off. The hands down best way to make money online with a niche blog is target search engine traffic and specifically Google search engine traffic. Why Google specifically? Google will bring you the lions share of search engine traffic day after day!

So you need to make your blog Google friendly and strive to keep Google happy. Doing so won't hurt your ranking with Yahoo or MSN (the other two search engines that will send you some traffic (hopefully.)

How do I take advantage of my onsite SEO?

You should always cover these steps with your onsite SEO efforts:

Keyword research do you keyword research choose keywords that are searched for so your SEO efforts are not in vain.
Use your main keywords in the HTML title tag of the page you're trying to optimize.
Use your keyword in your post title, and make sure to bold the title.
Use your keywords in the text of your post, about once for every 100 words, although don't worry too much about it just make your text sound natural.
Try to make your posts at least 300 words long. Be sure to cover the topic of your post well giving plenty of "meat" for your readers as well as the search engines.
Use your keywords in a link within your post to a related page. With Blogger or wordpress just be sure to use your keyword in your labels and tags respectively.

Follow these simple steps and you'll get a leg up on most of your competition. SEO is not particularly difficult you just must remember to keep all your pages/posts relevant to the keyword/keywords you want to rank for with that post/page, do this without fail and you will find getting on that coveted first page of Google becomes much easier.

One of the most profitable ways to monetize your website is by developing your own product. You could sell hard goods(a new type of bottle opener, perhaps) or software (if you have the needed skills), but to my way of thinking writing your own digital informational product is the way to go. That's right an ebook, even though there are thousands of ebooks out there for sale , the demand is still high. The cost of writing it, if you do it yourself, is minimal, there is no shipping or handling involved, therefore they are nearly pure profit.

Sell Advertising Space

You can sell advertising space, but don't expect to rake in the cash, unless you receive a ton of traffic. If you do have the traffic, selling advertising can be a real money maker.

Sell A Service

Sell a needed service in your niche. Selling a service is a little different than selling a product, in that a product you can have ready to deliver with the push of a button (as with ebooks). A service on the other hand, you perform when it's ordered ( as with website development). The Internet gives you the ability to offer your service to millions of people everyday!

Donations

You can ask for donations ("buy me a beer" and "buy me a cup of coffee" come to mind). Paypaloffers a simple "donation button" for it's members. I use Paypal's button on my money making blog.

Make Money With Google AdSense on Your Blogger Niche Blog

One of the easiest ways (and my preferred way) to make money with your Blogspot niche blog is with Google AdSense.

What is AdSense?

Google AdSense is the other side of Google AdWords-let me explain. Google AdWords is a program that Google implemented to allow people to advertise websites, products, ect. online. You see these ads on the right hand side of Google search results page on most searches using Google (they only appear for keywords that advertisers are willing to pay to advertise with.)

AdSense ads are those same ads but are shown on your website, and when someone visits your website and clicks on one of these ads the advertiser pays Google and Google gives you a cut (usually about 25%.) It's a real win-win-win situation-the advertiser gets a click on his ad, Google gets paid, and (this is the good part) so do you!

With AdSense you have no customers to take care of (no product to ship, returns, complaints,ect.) You just make money- pure and simple!

If you want to make money online setting up Blogspot niche blogs, well using AdSense is about as simple and trouble free as it can get. Google AdSense is the only way to go, if you ask me.

To Make the Most Money With AdSense Target the Higher Paying Keywords

You can make anywhere from $.01 a click to $15.00 a click with AdSense, so it makes sense to target keywords that pay well. I try to target keywords that cost advertisers at least $2.00 a click, which would make me about $.50 for that same click (I'll take $.50 clicks all day ever day.)

Generally the higher paying the keyword the more competition you will encounter in the niche. So you'll find keywords like "car insurance" and "payday loans" will be highly competitive, but on the other hand, $15.00 clicks add up faster then $.50 clicks, so that's something to keep in mind too. If you're just starting out I would target some less competitive keywords, build your experience and confidence before taking on all those highly competitive ones.

Another cool thing about AdSense is the ads will be relevant to the keywords you target on your website, which means if someone finds your website about "horses" and "horses" is your main keyword you optimized for they will see ads relating to horses, which means a higher CTR (click through rate) and more money in your pocket.

Learn Google's Rules and Follow Them

You need to read Google's AdSense Program Policies and adhere to them. You should also readGoogle's Webmaster Guidelines. Do the wrong thing and google can shut down your account and will even keep any monies owed to you!

Google's Ad Options

Google AdSense for content:There are a verity of size and shaped ads to place in your content. These ads can be text , image, or both, you can control what kind of ads are displayed.

Up to three ad units can be displayed on each page.
Two AdSense for search boxes can also be displayed per page.
Up to three link units can also be displayed.

Conclusion

When using AdSense on your blog or website you really should try different things, color combinations, ad placements, ect. Also sign-up for Google Analytics to track your ad performance and analyze, test, test, and test some more.
